Bullying Prevention for School-Based Intervention

This presentation will discuss two decades of research and practice on bullying and cyberbullying, including definitional issues, prevalence, risk and protective factor associated with victimization, perpetration, and witnessing both forms of bullying. School and home-based efforts found to prevent these behaviors and innovative efforts to address bullying and cyberbullying will be highlighted. These efforts involve developing apps for students to communicate both emotional and physical safety concerns, youth-led student campaigns to address mental health issues associated with involvement in bullying and cyberbullying as well as parent interventions and teacher trainings.
Objectives:
1. Identify definitions of bullying and cyberbullying, the prevalence of both forms of bullying, and risk and protective factors associated with both forms.
2. Understand the emotional, mental health, and academic impacts of involvement in bullying and cyberbullying involvement.
3. Become familiar with efficacious interventions to prevent bullying and cyberbullying.
