Mission Statement

 The mission of NJASP is to:

(1) advocate for all children to realize their full potential, and
(2) promote school psychological services for children and families.

To promote our mission for children, members, and the community, NJASP will:

Advocate for Children

            - Research and disseminate best practices
            - Advocate for early intervention and prevention programs
            - Promote moral-ethical values
            - Enhance equal educational opportunities for all students
            - Encourage proper transition planning
            - Maintain individual’s confidentiality
            - Coordinate core curriculum content standards with self management skills
            - Increase funding for education
            - Influence and promote legislation to support education and mental health

 Support Our Members

            - Support research and grant writing
            - Maintain a network of communication and support
            - Provide training for members
            - Promote best practices
            - Promote understanding and respect for different cultures
            - Raise certification standards

Increase diversity among school psychologists

Develop recognition of school psychologists as primary mental health professionals in the schools
            - Organize a committee for grant writing

Promote school psychologists as crisis intervention specialists
            - Maintain link with the national association
            - Provide consultation on issues of ethical practices
            - Promote high quality training programs
            - Develop collaboration with student members
            - Highlight qualities of school psychology to recruit new students to the field

 Interact with the Community

            - Increase awareness of multicultural issues
            - Encourage family involvement in child’s education and school activities
            - Increase awareness of school psychological services
            - Collaborate with community organizations
            - Promote parent training to include developmental, educational and social/emotional  issues
            - Promote profession and increase visibility to the community at large
            - Work collaboratively with professionals and professional groups within and outside the school
            - Consult with governmental agencies
            - Maintain awareness of programs in special needs districts
            - Expand public awareness of children’s needs
            - Disseminate position papers to a variety of audiences

 Maintain NJASP

            - Maintain fiscal responsibility
            - Maintain and expand membership
            - Review constitution
            - Review executive board structure and function
            - Recruit and develop new leadership for the organization
            - Develop operations manual
            - Enhance regional operation through delegates
            - Self monitor

 WHO WE ARE

            A non profit professional association organized in 1958 for school psychologists working or living in New Jersey
            An organization governed by a voluntary Executive Board consisting of elected officers, appointed officers, and
            committee chairs
            NJASP is a Registered New Jersey Professional Development Provider #204

NJASP ACTIVITIES

            - Publish and distribute a NJASP quarterly newsletter to members of The New Jersey School Psychologist 
            - Pr
ovide two state wide professional conferences in the winter and spring of each year, as well as regional meetings
            - Maintain  NJASP Website (www.njasp.org) which includes information on current j ob opportunities, mental health
               service providers list, audio/visual lending library, and other information
            - Maintain a Listserv to inform members of legislative updates, advocacy, and other issues relevant to school psychologists
           
- Promote an awareness of and providing assistance to members with ethical and professional issues
            - Develop, promote, and maintain relationships with government and professional organizations to establish sound legislation
              and public policy for children and youth (New Jersey Department of Education,
              New Jersey Coalition of Child Study Teams, etc.)

Develop, promote and maintain relationships with undergraduate and graduate students through the NJASP
               student organization ( GUStO)

            YOUR TIME AND ENERGY - Members support NJASP’s goals by sharing ideas and concerns with the Executive Board
